 Challenge #3

Create a wish list of fandom things (podfic, graphics, playlists, canon recs translations, research help, vids, sky's the limit!) that you'd like to receive. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

1 - I would love recs for Bellatrix centric fics, especially pregnancy/kidfics, but preferably not Bellamort (any other ship is fine). Even better if they’re not from AO3 since that’s where I generally read fics

2 - the same but art

3 - I’d really like for someone to explain icons to me. I’m new to dreamwidth and I see people requesting them, and I know they’re small images, but further than that, I don’t know much. If someone has the patience to get me in the loop I’d really appreciate it

4 - song/playlist recs! For any of my fav characters (Bellatrix, Julia Hoffman, Rose Weil, Lucy Honeychurch, Mrs Lovett) or ships involving them

5 - fandom history video essays. Any fandom! or fandom in general! I watch a lot of strange aeons fandom history videos, so anything along those lines. petty 2000s dramas, histories of fandom tropes, if you have a favourite I’d love to watch it

I'd love to watch fandom history videos.

Icons are also called user pics. They're 100x100. I think the user pics at Tumblr are 150x150 or even bigger? Maybe 200x200? They were really a big deal on Live Journal, and to a lesser degree on DW, because you can change your user pic with every post you make. On Live Journal there were probably hundreds of makers at one time, hundreds of communities, some for individual fandoms, some for stock, some for holidays, for art for sports. You name it, there was an icon community for it. It was something to behold. People who are really into icons can purchase more slots. I have a Seed account here, which means I ponied up some money to help get DW off the ground. Consequently I have 300 icon slots, 290 of them filled. There are users here with 600 icon slots. There are icon communities here on DW for makers to post their works. Some are just for fandom, some are general interest. There are challenge communities here for icon makers. I consider icon making an art form in miniature. I have made a few but my skills are rudimentary to the max. I can't even tell you how many icons I have saved to my hard drive.

I just typed icons into the interest search bar and got nearly 3500 matches, including users and communities.

Helloo from a long-timer LJ and DW user! For icons, it's definitely a way to change things up and customize what you'd like to display for posts and/comments you leave on friend journals or in communities. Definitely different from Tumblr, but makes blogging in the old school way a little funner. More info in the DW Icon FAQ.

With a free SW account, you can have up to 15 icons, so as long as you have an image that is 100x100 pixels and 60kb or less, and in GIF, JPG or PNG format then you're good. There are a lot of programs you can use to shrink and make your own icons (from good ol paint, to Canva), or there are plenty of folks who take icon requests.

Just like how you got your first icon uploaded, that means you can upload 14 more and have the ability to choose from icons every time you post. You can add keywords (aka what you want the icon to be called) so you can look it up should you ever want your icon to be changed at any time. And comments are very helpful to make a note for yourself, or to give credit on to the person who made the graphic.
